Reinhard Selten Award for MaCCI Member Christian Michel

Christian Michel, junior MaCCI member, received the Reinhard Selten Award of the German Economic Association (Verein für Socialpolitik) honoring his paper "Identification and Estimation of Intra-Firm and Industry Competition via Ownership Change". In his paper, he proposes a novel empirical framework to estimate how fast and how strongly merging firms adjust to maximize joint profits after a horizontal merger and to jointly infer the type of competition and the firms' cost structure in the industry under consideration.

Christian Michel received his PhD at Mannheim this summer and will at University Pompeu Fabra as an Assistant Professor this fall. The annual award is given to a young researcher whose work is distinguished by its originality, importance, and clean methodology.
